It’s easy to forget why we get outside in the woods. Distractions of everyday life, jealousy, and envy over a social media posts because someone is “there” on that grand spot and you’re not. And then there is, what seems to be the constant flow of gear reviews and soon we’re distracted with discussions over why one piece of gear is better than another. In the meantime, that gentle fawn making its way through the woods off to your left goes unnoticed and a clear starry night isn’t gazed upon as the flicker of a campfire smolders out over conversations, sometimes debates, of why your friends hiking boots suck and yours is better.
My good friend Dane Cramer recently completed a yo-yo trip of the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail and the #LHX2018 team had an opportunity to join him for part of his journey. Maybe you’ve lost the excitement you once had when you first started hiking and backpacking. If so, and we’ve all been there, I highly recommend watching Dane’s latest video from his yo-yo trip. Don’t watch it to see how the #LHX2018 trip went. Watch it and be reminded why YOU get outside for a hike. And why sometimes it’s best under load.
