#LHX2018 – It’s for the kids

For the second year in a row HBF Outdoors is hosting a five day backpacking adventure on the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail.

#LHX2018 is an adventure and experience that gives back to the outdoor community by supporting its partner Gear Forward.
A team of experienced backpackers will spend the next several months collecting used or new outdoor gear that Gear Forward will donate to Scout troops across the country.

In April 2018 the team will then backpack the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail aka LHHT to connect in person to experience the Laurel Highlands. This year the team is made up of people from across the country; Utah, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New York.

I’m particularly excited about our second #LHX as Scott Gauvin the Executive Director of Gear Forward has joined the team and will be on the trail with us. During our last #LHX event, this past April Scott was unable to make it due to other obligations. So to have him come and experience the LHHT and connect with the team will be an exciting time for him. In addition, most of the team for #LHX2018 is made up of Gear Forward Ambassadors.

Gear Forward Ambassadors are everyday people from all around the country who love the outdoors, who not only have a passion for experiencing all the outdoors has to offer but for also giving back. These individuals all reached out to Gear Forward wanting to get involved, asking how they could help in being a part of the solution and get kids in need outside.

All of the Ambassadors come to Gear Forward with different stories, outdoor histories, and experiences but all are focused on helping Gear Forward outfit the next generation of adventurers in their communities.

As a board member for the East Region, for me, it will be an honor to adventure and connect in person with the ambassadors who work at giving back so kids can get outside.

Gear Forward, simply is about providing the next generation of stewards, adventurers, Scoutmasters and Girl Scout Leaders the resources they need to get outdoors. No child should be denied access to all the outdoors has to offer because they don’t have the necessary equipment. Through the collection of gently used outdoor gear, Gear Forward will work with other youth and outdoor-focused organizations to get donated gear into the hands that need it.

#LHX2018 is more than a group of adventurers seeking to get outside for a backpacking trip. We’re passionate about getting others outside and equipping those in need with gear so they can have an experience in the woods on a trail.

There are several ways you can get involved with #LHX2018 and give back to the outdoor community.

  • Visit the Gear Forward website for ways to give back by checking out the Get Involved link.
  • We are in need of volunteers the week of the trip. Comment below and we’ll have someone reach out and make contact.
  • Help us promote Gear Forward and #LHX2018 by sharing posts and using the #LHX2018 hashtag.

Help us make #LHX2018 the best one yet by getting kids outside with the gear they need.

You can meet the team and follow them by visiting the #LHX2018 page.
