11 Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. 12 Then people who are not believers will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others. – 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12
What is your goal for life? Is it to live quiet and minding your own business? Today, we live in a culture where accomplishing that goal is not impossible, but it can be challenging to achieve. With social media on every device we carry, sit in front of, or hold on our lap, minding our own business is tough. Privacy to some extent is unheard of as we post our life’s on the web for everyone to see.
I believe living a quiet life, minding my own business and working hard is not only a goal, but also how God intends for us to live. He didn’t intend for us to expose every area of our lives for the world to see, even if it’s in small bits.
One of the benefits of hiking, backpacking or camping is it gives you the opportunity to disconnect from a world that craves information. Spending time in the mountains and woods provides a quiet place that is private and away from what doesn’t matter in life, and gives us the time and space to connect with what really matters.
Live a quiet life, mind your own business AND work hard with your hands. Yes, you read that right and just in case take a look at verse 11 again. This is the goal or ambition God wants from us. What goals are you focusing on?
